| Financial & Legal Tax d'Habitation & Foncière reductions. | CRAZY DIAMOND posted on 06/11/2009 at 20:08

From what I’ve read, as we’ve been cards-in residents here since November 2008, submitted a tax return for 2008 and are both 65, in 2010 we will be exempt from Tax d’Habitation and our Tax Foncière will be reduced by 100 euros. Can anybody please confirm if this is correct? If it is, how do we ensure we will be in receipt of such largesse? Do we need to apply to our local Trésor Public office, or will the reductions go through automatically as a result of the info on our 2008 tax return, and the Tax d’Habitation prélève be cancelled? Assuming the Tax d’ Hab is a thing of the past, will we also still have to pay the TV licence portion?
Come to think of it, if our age, residency and 2008 tax return, mean we’ve met the Tax d’Habitation and Foncière exemption and refund criteria for next year, then surely we’re entitled to it for 2009? If so, what do I need to do to recover all the mullah that’s been prélèved this year and get a 100€ Foncière refund?

Also, you have to be over 60 on the 1st January (which is when tax d'hab is allocated). The exoneration is automatic. You are also exempt from paying TV licence if you qualify.

For tax fonciere, I believe you can get a 100 euro reduction if you are over 65 and on a low income.

The calculations are all based on your previous year's tax return. |

The property tax liabilities arise as of 1 January of the tax year.
The calculations for exemption/reduction are based on the tax declaration you submit in May.
Once the tax declaration has been processed, the property tax bills are calculated and issued in the autumn.
Your revenu fiscal de référence as shown on your 2009 tax avis needs to be less than 15,091€ for you to qualify for the TdH exemption and TF reduction on this year's bills.
Same process starts again next year......
